Dr. Paul Choo was born in Singapore in 1947. He graduated as a Medical Doctor from the National University of Singapore (1971) and was awarded a Doctor of Divinity (honoris causa) from Bob Jones University (1998).
He started the Shenton Medical Group which became Singapore‘s largest medical group in the 80s. In 1995 he sold the medical group to Singapore’s largest hospital group to focus on pastoring the Gospel Light Christian Church (which he had started in 1987). Today GLCC is a growing church with a weekly (pre-pandemic) attendance of about 3000. In 1995 he founded the Asia-Pacific Institute of Biblical Studies (APIBS) which was given permission by Bob Jones University to use their videotaped lectures and study materials. In 2008 APIBS changed its name to Asia-Pacific Institute of International Studies (APIIS) to reflect its expansion into other fields of practical ministry and leadership. So far APIBS/APIIS has trained over 4000 Asian leaders. In 2009, he founded Goducate (a non-profit organization that serves 8 Asian countries and employs about 250 full-time staff ) to help “needy Asians help themselves.” He has taught/preached in hundreds of universities, bible schools, organizations, and churches in America, Europe, Australia, Africa, and Asia. His passion is to train leaders in Asia for the 21st century. For his contribution to Asia, he was selected by Channel News Asia in 2011 as one of the "Asians of the Year". |
Dr. Michael Redick was born in California, the USA in 1962. He graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York in 1984. In 1991 he graduated from International Baptist College in Tempe, Arizona with an M.A. in Pastoral Theology and was awarded a Doctor of Divinity (honoris causa) from IBC in 2010.
In 1991 he assumed the pastorate of Baptist Fellowship Church, Singapore. In 1998, being called to evangelism he left the pastorate of BFC and started holding gospel crusades throughout Asia. In 1999, he joined Dr. Paul Choo and Gospel Light Christian Church, Singapore. In the early 2000s (by the appointment of Dr. Choo) he became the President of Student Movement for Christ International, Philippines, a campus ministry with 125 workers on 120 campuses with 6000 university students under discipleship. Through the ministry of SMCI, they have planted six Grow Point Churches in the Philippines. In 2010, he and his wife Lisa started a ministry in a restricted access nation, and today they have 25 full-time staff reaching out to 8 university campuses. Through their non-profit organization Nosnuma International they have fed, housed, rescued, helped, and met the needs of thousands of people throughout Asia. He has preached the gospel in thousands of high schools, colleges, and universities. He has taught the bible, trained, mentored, and preached extensively throughout Asia, Australia, Europe, and the United States. His passion is to equip the saint to do the work of the ministry. Dr Jason Lim graduated as a medical doctor from the National University of Singapore in year 2000. He worked in the Singapore Armed Forces as the brigade medical officer and then as a medical officer in SingHealth till 2006.
He was born again into the Christian faith in 1995. Since the time of conversion, he has been actively serving in the local church at Gospel Light Christian Church. He served as the worship leader, and then as one of the preachers in the Filipino congregation. He also held leadership positions in the Youth Ministry and then the Chinese Ministry. Being effectively bilingual, he preached in Mandarin in the Chinese worship services. He oversaw the birth of an outreach ministry to hundreds of Chinese construction workers from China. He entered full-time pastoral ministry at Gospel Light Christian Church in 2007, taking over as the senior pastor from Dr Paul Choo and gave up his medical practice to devote himself to the pastoral ministry. Under his leadership, the church experienced constant growth in numbers, effectively seeing a many fold increase over the years. He provided spiritual leadership and oversight for the successful transition of a nomadic church like Gospel Light (whose worship services were held in various locations over the years) to become a community church established in Punggol, where they now worship in a $40+ million building. Under his leadership, the church embarked on a discipleship process called Life-on-life Missional Discipleship (LOLMD), a ministry started by Perimeter Church in Atlanta Georgia. Over the past 8 years, many people have been effectively discipled and raised to be disciple-makers, in an effort to consistently fulfil the Great Commission. He has travelled to foreign lands to teach and impart the LOLMD process to other churches. He authored a book “Together Forever”- a book that focuses on gospel-centred marriages. His mission is to be “Leading Generations into a Life-changing Relationship with Jesus Christ.” |
Asher was born in Singapore in 1992. He graduated from the University of Southampton in 2016 with a degree in Computer Science. He returned to the University of Southampton and graduated with a Master’s degree in History in 2017.
Previously, Asher had attended a false-teaching church for seven years. He was impressed with the church’s pastor, and was inspired to learn the Bible’s original languages. However, he soon discovered that the church’s pastor was teaching lies and half-truths about the Bible’s original languages in order to twist the meaning of the Scriptures and deceive his followers. He left the church, and later became a member of Gospel Light Christian Church in 2018, when he returned from the UK after his studies. Asher works full-time as a software engineer in the Singapore Government. He is also a PhD candidate at the University of Southampton, specializing in Jewish and Christian History. His research requires him to be proficient in Classical Hebrew, Ancient Greek, and Latin, so as to read the Bible and ancient Jewish and Christian texts in their original languages. He runs Zealous Ministries (zmin.org), which seeks to equip Christians with a zeal for God that is according to knowledge. |
ABOUT APIIS

So he started the Asia-Pacific Institute of Biblical Studies (APIBS) to run these courses. From 1995 to 2008 over 3000 Asian ministry leaders received their training with these BJU lessons. In 2008 APIBS changed its name to Asia-Pacific Institute of International Studies (APIIS) to reflect its expansion into other non-English speaking Asian countries and its addition of practical ministry and leadership courses. |
